Whether on a subway or at the beach, someone will capture my attention. Photographs are helpful but a live model with good lighting is the best way to work. People are so interesting to watch, and when I’m able to capture a mood whatever it may be, I feel a connection that hopefully translates to the canvas or sculpture.
The focus had been on sculpting boxers, I like movement in my sculptures. My paintings tend to be a more relaxed narrative.
The Art Students League’s energy is awesome. I’ve studied with Rhoda Sherbell for sculpture, and Cornelia Foss, Mary Beth McKenzie, and Gavin Baker, for painting, each artist has been so generous in sharing their knowledge, as well as the students I’ve come to know.
